Frank Pietronigro Sits on Panel at SKY ART Conference 2002 in Greece

Delphi, Greece — Artist Frank Pietronigro, at the invitation of Otto Piene, Founder Emeritus of the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (CAVS/MIT), spoke on a panel titled “Experiencing Space” at the SKY ART Conference 2002.

The SKY ART Conference's goal was to foster deeper awareness of our environment and to inspire peaceful and creative use of sky and space. The conference gathered leading space artists, astrophysicists, public officials, art theorists, scientists and space flight engineers to discuss the history, theory and projections for sky and space art. The conference took place October 15-19, 2002. There was a two-day program of presentations in Delphi, followed by workshops and events given by participants on the island of Ikaria.

The “Experiencing Space” panel included:

  • Chris Robinson, professor, University of South Carolina
  • Rob LaFrenais, co-founder, Arts Catalyst
  • James Chiles, writer, Like a Bolt from the Black: Orbital Debris and the Problem of Low-Probability, High-Energy Accidents
  • Marko Pelijhan, founder, Project Atol
  • Brad Pitts, graduate student, Aeronautics and Astronautics
  • Frank Pietronigro, interdisciplinary fine artist
  • Dionysios Rigopoulos, space architect
The SKY ART 2002 conference was organized by CAVS/MIT in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Greece, the Foundation for Hellenic Culture, and the European Cultural Center in Delphi. Vassilakis Takis was the Honorary Chairman of the Conference.
