Space Artists: The Cultural Frontiers of Space Travel

The workshop brings together a limited number of invited participants to focus on the tasks of 1) writing a document to prepare for space agencies such as NASA, ESA, JAXA, etc. concerning Space Artists' Residencies and Collaborations within their institutions; 2) to identify topics that will serve as the basis of an agenda for an International Conference on Space Art to be held one year later.

Frank Pietronigro presented his work at the conference: Visibility – Legibility of Space Art, Zero Gravity Art: The Experience of Parabolic Flight. Frank presented video of his painting in zero gravity while discussing his belief that the transcendent quality of art creation will keep the human spirit alive during long-term space missions. Pietronigro discussed situations that enabled him to create art in microgravity and build an artistic bridge to NASA space flight technology.
